The Boychick Affair

now playing Off Broadway at Comix

through June 20

It is just like any other party … at first. As a guest, you are greeted by a hostess, given a formal copy of your invitation, and sent to wait outdoors until the festivities begin. That's where the normalcy of the event ends.  Soon you're introduced to Harry Boychick's nagging mother, Cheryl, who just cannot locate her young Jewish son, upon whom this whole Bar Mitzvah is centered.  She screams down the street, “Harry?!” as her breasts seem to want to plunge to the dirty New York City street. Slowly her in-laws pour out from the Bar Mitzvah joint, all claiming to know you from prior events (I recommend going along with whatever they say) and you commence the evening of dancing, mingling, and always keeping an eye on an oddly decorated chair.

picture - The Boychick AffairThe Boychick Affair, like every other production inspired by Tony & Tina's Wedding, is not a show as much as an experience you have, complete with a buffet. The actors and actresses never break character (even if you try to force them to).  To tell you more would spoil the surprises in store, so let me just assure you that it's a wonderfully meshuganah way to spend a Sunday evening.
